ARAS-T BoardScan

Transverse Board Grading for High-Throughput Sorting Lines

ARAS-T BoardScan grades boards crosswise on the lugged chain — up to 240 lugs/min, matched to the pace of modern sorting and trimmer lines. Combining 3D laser triangulation, high-resolution colour imaging, and tracheid scatter analysis, it captures all four surfaces in a single pass and detects grain deviations and hidden knots that cameras alone cannot see. Every board is sorted to its highest market value in real time — on green, dry, or planed lumber.

How ARAS-T Works

Boards travel crosswise on the lugged chain through the scanner zone. All sensors capture simultaneously in one pass — no board turning, no gaps in flow.

1

Lug Tracking

Each board is tracked on its lug through the scanning zone, keeping identity and grading data synchronized at full chain speed.

2

4-Sided Capture

3D laser triangulation and colour cameras image all four surfaces simultaneously — no mechanical turning.

3

Tracheid Analysis

Laser light scattering reveals grain angle deviations and hidden knots invisible to standard cameras.

4

AI Grading & Sorting

WoodScan AI classifies every defect and assigns the grade; trimmer and bin decisions are output in real time.

From Defect Map to Best Decision

Every Board Sorted for Its Highest Value

ARAS-T builds a complete defect map of each board — shape, surface features, and internal grain structure — and feeds it to the optimization engine. Trimming and sorting decisions are calculated against current product values and order priorities, so each board leaves the chain as the most valuable product it can become, with no human grading bottleneck.

Log-to-Board Traceability

WoodScan Trace

Every board knows its log. ARAS-T closes the traceability chain: each graded board is matched back to its source log and position within it, linking board quality to the log data captured at the logyard and sawline.

The result is verifiable, mill-wide data for yield analysis, quality claims, and chain-of-custody reporting — from standing inventory to finished lumber.

Key Benefits

Key Benefits

Why mills choose ARAS-T for transverse sorting and trimmer lines.

Ultimate Value Recovery

Multi-sensor fusion — colour, laser, and tracheid — identifies every defect, so each board is sorted for its highest market value.

True 4-Sided Scanning

All four surfaces imaged in a single pass, eliminating mechanical board turning and its maintenance burden.

Advanced Tracheid Analysis

Laser scattering detects grain angles and hidden knots — structural weaknesses invisible to standard cameras.

Lugged-Chain Throughput

Engineered for high-speed lugged chains at up to 240 lugs/min — consistent automated grading with no labor bottleneck.

All-Stage Versatility

Reliable grading on green, dry, or planed lumber — at the green sorter, dry sorter, or planer mill.

Compact Retrofit Design

390 mm shorter mechanical design fits existing decks with minimal downtime and easy maintenance access.
